Hobnob's History
|
Hobnob was built by Trapper Yachts Limited of Poole in 1979. She was professionally built and fitted out by them. She was delivered fully fitted and complete to Mr Alec Brook. We are only the third owners.
Throughout her life Hobnob has been carefully maintained by each of her owners.
She has been dry stored during the winter usually from October to March. Maintenance has been carried out to a high standard and rigging sails and fittings have been replaced and upgraded as necessary.
Hobnob cost new 11,287.74.
She was sailed from the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole and dry stored there each winter. Mr Brook registered Hobnob as a British ship and that registration has been continued to the present day. She was sailed and raced from Poole and was well known locally. She took part in several Cowes Weeks. She had a RORC rating and had many sail and other upgrades.
In August 1999 she was sold to Professor Lance Lanyon who continued to keep her at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole. He also maintained her to a high standard. He carried out a number of improvements, the most significant of which was to fit a Facnor headsail furler. He used her as a cruising yacht.
He sold her to us after five years of ownership to buy a much bigger yacht.

Hobnob as she was in 1999 |
We bought Hobnob in early 2004 and brought her to Weymouth.
She has been fully in commission for each season since then and almost certainly for each season of her life. We normally use her for club racing from Castle Cove Sailing Club and she has a very good racing record.
We also occasionally use her for cruising ranging between Dartmouth and Poole for which she is extremely good and has looked after us in all weathers.
During our twelve years of ownership she has also been very carefully maintained. This has been essential in order both to cruise and to race successfully. We have renewed most of the standing and running rigging.
We have bought a number of new sails and a new spinnaker.
The engine has been meticulously maintained each winter and runs very well. We have not allowed a build up of antifouling on the hull, and guard rails are in good condition.
During the years she has been refined as a sailing boat and accumulated some excellent equipment. She is extremely well found and everything onboard works. We have no problem in getting her fully insured each year with a cruising range of the English Channel.
She is and always has been a fine yacht and very economical to run.
