Nicodemus Knob

This pinnacle of land indicates the height of the fields before the quarrying started. No one really knows how it got its name. There is much speculation about it being named to indicate the prowess of a certain Nicodemus. Mind you on Portland incomers were often beguiled. It was an isolated place and marriages were not entered into until an offspring was on the way. Incomers sometimes got the impression that the women were of easy virtue which resulted in shot gun marriages and moon light flits.
